Vivalda Patin is a successful entrepreneur and owner of three businesses. Vivalda is CEO of swimwear brand Mar by RV, lash brand The Brand By V and Midtown cuts, a barber shop in Miami. She said “getting discouraged is not an option in this journey”. Today Vivalda is sharing her story with us.
Can you tell us a bit more about yourself and your career journey?
I love diversity and love learning and understanding other’s cultures, whether it is food, lifestyle, fashion, experience, anything and everything. It also fills my heart to plant a seed and watch it grow, putting in the effort to develop a product or a brand that will significantly connect with others, is something I have enjoyed.
Vivalda, why did you make the decision to become an entrepreneur?
I was in a point in my life where I was seeking new challenges, and starting a new business from scratch and that was the perfect fit not only to explore new industries, but to inspire others as well. I honestly never thought this would lead me to developing three different successful brands in three completely different industries.
How would you describe your job?
Rewarding. I think it is important to understand and to know that not everything will always turn out the way you expect it to, a lot of frustration happens in this process.. but, it is extremely important to also know that getting discouraged is not an option in this journey 🙂
What were some of the challenges you faced when you first started?
The type of industry I chose for my first business was definitely a challenge. My first was a barbershop, I am not a barber, and have no idea how to cut hair, however I am all about selling an “experience” and that is the environment I have been able to create. Given the industry and this being my first business, it was a bit tricky, but I was lucky enough to be able to partner up with experts from the industry who happen to be part of my family, and we have made a great tag team!
What do you think is the most important part of bringing your brand to life?
Being in love with your brand and believing your product will successfully fulfill customer’s needs. I think a big part of your brands growth is up to customer support, they need to love your product as much as you do!
What is your favorite part about being an entrepreneur?
Definitely being able to inspire others through my work. It is rewarding to help others through your own experience.
What advice would you share with someone who wants to become an entrepreneur?
Follow your intuition, do the research! Welcome and explore different industries.
What motivates you to keep working on your business to achieve further success?
Never settle. This is what I keep telling myself once I feel like I am done with a project, there will always be room for improvement. Once the barbershop was up and running I wanted to do something beauty oriented, so I developed my own lash line. I am into beauty, and being an island girl (Dominican Republic), I cannot stay away from beaches, so shortly after developing my lash line I decided to work on a swimsuit line with someone who shared the same passion for the tropics as I do! Nonetheless, while heading towards the path of developing other businesses, I never lose sight of what I have already built and how it can be innovated. I am constantly striving to make all of them better.
Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers, any advice?
No dream will ever be too big. If you are in love with your brand, customers falling in love with it too and they will follow.
